When to replace breast implants?

Women commonly present with this dilemma. The incidence of implant failure with modern implants is low but can be difficult to detect clinically.

My recommendations include an ultrasound every 2-3 years. It is quite accurate, low cost and doesn’t involve radiation. I don’t subscribe to simply replacing implants every 10 or 15 years. If the implant is not broken why fix it?

If your implant is found to be ruptured you need to discuss with your surgeon whether you are going to replace the implants on removing the ruptured device. If you have health insurance some of your costs are likely to be covered by your fund.  View our page about Breast Augmentation.
