Body Contouring is a term that encompasses various skin reductive procedures that may be necessary following extreme weight loss. This is usually a consequence of Bariatric Surgery. These procedures include Breast Lift, Brachioplasty, Abdominoplasty, Body Lift and Thigh Reduction most commonly. You should ask your GP or Bariatric Surgeon for a referral to a Plastic Surgeon when your weight loss has stabilised and your BMI is acceptable to proceed with operation.
Various procedures can be combined in one operation provided the total operating time is not excessive (>5 hours) and major risk factors include DVT and infection. It is important to discuss with your surgeon where scars will be placed and what sort of recovery time you should expect.
The surgery can have an amazing restorative effect on your self image but it is a big undertaking. Bariatric Surgery is expensive and so is Body Contouring Surgery. You may be eligible for a medicare rebate but this is minimal and large gap fees are common.
Dr Cooper has expertise in the management of all Body Contouring procedures and will be able to give you a thorough appraisal of what is required.
